As a former school Student Assistance Counselor (SAC), also certified in Guidance, Nancy has had extensive experience working as part of a team of educators to assist students who are experiencing difficulties in school, socially, or at home. She knows the unique challenges that school professionals face on a daily basis as well as the frustration of having few community resources to refer to who have both the experience and skill set to effectively work with adolescents.

In addition, too often there is limited communication between the referring school professional (i.e., Guidance Counselor, Child Study Team, SAC) and the therapist, which leaves the therapist not knowing how the child is truly performing and behaving at school, and the school professional getting second-hand information from the child about how things are going in therapy.

Of note, Nancy makes it a practice to partner with the referring school professional by having open communication with them, utilizing signed releases of information, in order to best assist students with whatever may be impeding their achievement or emotional well-being. This partnering approach between the referring school professional, the parents, and the therapist provides the best scenario for un-fragmented care and positive outcomes.

Parents and school professionals alike can have confidence in referring Nancy to their students because she understands firsthand the challenges in the school environment and has a proven track record for effectively counseling teens and their families.
